यह कविता एक गुब्बारे वाले के बारे में है जो बाज़ार के दिनों में आता है। वह अपने हाथ में लाल, बैंगनी, नीले और हरे रंग के गुब्बारों का एक प्यारा सा गुच्छा लिए बाज़ार के चौराहे पर खड़ा रहता है। वह अपने काम में इतना व्यस्त रहता है कि दोपहर के खाने के बारे में भी नहीं सोचता। गुब्बारे एक धागे से बँधे हैं और हवा चलने पर वे आपस में खिंचाव (tug) करते हैं। बच्चा कल्पना करता है कि काश किसी दिन गुब्बारे वाला उन्हें छोड़ दे, ताकि हम उन्हें आसमान में ऊँचा उड़ते हुए देख सकें। वे आसमान में बहुत सुंदर लगेंगे।
